To paint on glass has a charm of its own: the surface is smooth, the laying of paint goes quickly. The material itself offers wonderful advantages. It is translucent, and the light takes over a large part of expression.

In the kiln something new is created, magical and alchemistic. Through the burning process the paint develops a dynamic all of its own. Forms that – before firing – seemed to stand solid and stable on the glass become liquid through the heat, and deviations develop. Details, invisible before, gain significance and come to life through the burning process.

So each firing is an exciting experience leading to an uncertain ending for the work. Due to the wonderfully intensive and sacred red of the antique glass the painting comes to life by means of the light falling through it. The spiritual aspects of the painting attain their true priority of importance. Light is incorporeal, weightless.
