RED'N'BALL, 2022
Invited by designer Sebastian Herkner, van Treeck took part in the exhibition 'Homo Faber - Patterns of Craft' in 2022 with a representative work. For this purpose the large-format glass painting 'Red'n'Ball' was created. It is based on the idea of depicting the contemporary craftsmanship of the workshops and bringing the expertise of glass painting to Venice.
Based on Vasarely's idea of spatial illusion, the work shows a sphere and a deep red-orange colour gradient alongside the given geometric pattern. Transparent red in all its nuances is one of the most spectacular colours in modern float glass painting. It is quite difficult to achieve a deep red colour as there are no transparent red glass oxides.
The work required several coats of pink, yellow and orange glass paint and several colour firings to create strong reds in the colour gradient. Finally, sandblasting created the illusion of depth: the glass, frosted in the finest gradations, reveals a three-dimensional sphere behind the San Giorgio ornament. For three weeks in May 2022, the hand-painted intense red on glass shone alongside other artisanal masterpieces on San Giorgio.
